Lucy Luck strikes out as independent agent after nine years at Conville & Walsh
Lucy Luck has become an independent literary agent after nine years at C&W. Luck’s list includes bestsellers and award-winning authors including Sara Baume, Sheena Patel, Roddy Doyle, Eley Williams, Kevin Barry, Colin Barrett, Andrew Michael Hurley, Colin Walsh, Wendy Erskine, Ben Lerner (UK) and Douglas Stuart (UK).
Lucy Luck Associates, which Luck originally established in 2006, will work in collaboration with PEW Literary for contracts and accounting, while translation rights will be handled by PEW’s Margaret Halton and Alex Chernova.
All of Luck’s authors have moved with her and will continue to handle UK rights for US agenting partners.
Upcoming titles include Douglas Stuarts’ John of John, Djamel White’s debut All Them Dogs, Juliano Zaffino’s The Steps, Lerner’s Transcription, Baume’s Opening Night and the paperbacks of Wendy Erskine’s Women’s Prize-longlisted The Benefactors and Rowe Irvin’s Observer Debut-nominated Life Cycle of a Moth.
Luck started her career at RCW and had also worked in association with Aitken Alexander before joining C&W in 2016.
She said: “I have had the extraordinary privilege over the past nine years at C&W to share the friendship and company of some of the most skilled agents in the business. Although I will miss them terribly I am excited to be starting a new independent adventure with my authors and with the experience and wisdom of the PEW Literary team, all of whom I’ve admired for many years.”
She added: “I’m immensely grateful for the support I’ve already received from my authors in embarking on this new chapter; working in association with PEW, and with colleagues such as Rebecca Carter, Doug Young, Patrick Walsh – and of course Margaret Halton – is an honour. I can’t wait to see all of our international friends and colleagues at London Book Fair to talk books and business with everyone.”
PEW Literary has a similar working-in-collaboration set-up with Carter’s Rebecca Carter Literary.
