| Philip O Ceallaigh's Notes From a Turkish Whorehouse has been awarded the Glen Dimplex Prize for the best first work of fiction. Fighting off strong competition from Jane Harris' Observations, JM Ledgard's Giraffe, James Scudamore's The Amnesia Clinic, Rodge Glass' No Fireworks, and Naomi Alderman's Disobedience, Philip was awarded the prize at a gala awards ceremony in Dublin on 2nd November. Glenn Patterson, one of the panel of judges, said in awarding the prize that "Debut story collections are increasingly rare. Debut collections of this calibre are once in a generation events.' |
